Places to Eat - Top End

Two of the city's very best restaurants, both near the town centre, are the Chow King Chinese Restaurant (t. 713651), on Zinda Bazar Rd, and Diner King Chinese Restaurant (t. 718647), around the corner to the south. Both are nicely decorated and the food is excellent - good places to splurge if you've been eating meals for Tk 20 for too long. Dishes served at the Chow King include beef and onions, Thai prawns and Thai chicken, all for around Tk 100. It also has non-oriental selections. The Diner King is similar but cheaper, serving dishes such as sweet and sour chicken (Tk 80), Mandarin steamed fish (Tk 70) and fish with mushrooms (Tk 45).

The Swapnil Restaurant at Hotel Polash features mostly Bangladeshi food (eg, chicken tikka for Tk 95 and fish curry for Tk 55), but it also serves a number of Chinese selections. Some other hotel restaurant possibilities are the restaurant at the Parjatan Motel and the Jharna Restaurant at the Hotel Holy Side. Hotel Shahban has a TV and a restaurant with a wide selection of Bangladeshi dishes for around Tk 40 for a main course.
