Fenchuganj & Chhatak

Fenchuganj, a 45-minute bus ride south of Sylhet, is a fairly scenic town despite the huge fertiliser factory that operates on natural gas and produces half of the country's total requirement of synthetic urea. The Hakaluki haors about 12km west of town are a fine place for bird-watching.

Some 38km north-west of Sylhet, Chhatak has orange groves and cement and pulp factories, plus a sky rope-line used to transport lime from the hills. The cement factory, which is the largest of its kind in the country, has a guesthouse with four air-con rooms.
