Telepara/Satcheri Forest Reserve
About 60km south-west from Srimangal on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway is
the small Telepara/Satcheri Forest Reserve. Similar to the
Lowacherra Forest Reserve, this reserve provides a good habitat for
quite a number of forest birds and small animals. There is a track
heading into the forest from the main road, which eventually leads to a sandy ravine and an
old, grown-over logging road/path. Follow this path and you'll come
to a tea plantation at the edge of the forest and will be able to
loop back (left) across the ravine and follow the continuation of
the path through the forest. Though this 'logging' path is the best
one, there are other ill-defined tracks throughout the forest.
Getting There & Away The forest is on the south side of the main
road, about 1km east
of the Satcheri bus stop/Telepara Tea Estate, just where the highway
takes a sharp left (hairpin) bend. You could get the driver of the
Dhaka-Sylhet bus to drop you here if you don't mind missing the
early hours when bird-watching is best. Alternatively, you could get
a bus from Srimangal to Telepara, which is well marked, and walk to
the trailhead a kilometre away. To return to Srimangal you could try
flagging one of the Dhaka-Sylhet buses, which tend to be full, or
walk back to Telepara and catch one there.
